This apprenticeship requires completion of specific state certifications which requires passing a state proctored exam with a score of 70% or better. In order to take the state exam, you must have a high school diploma or GED. Study material is provided to each apprentice and the following certifications will be obtained during the apprenticeship; Wastewater Collections I Certification (within year 1) and Wastewater Collection II Certification (within year 3). During the program, these are the core work duties you will focus on and gain experience to: Maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting wastewater systems and pipelines through the use of high-velocity jet-vac equipment Operating wastewater manhole and water valve box adjustment equipment Installing, repairing, removing, and replacing gravity pipelines Operating wastewater pumping, flushing, and transporting equipment Operating manhole rehabilitation equipment Operating CCTV (closed-circuit television) equipment Troubleshooting and analyzing problems and issues in the collection system and making corrective changes Maintaining, calibrating, and operating equipment Inspecting, testing, and preparing confined spaces for safe entry Maintaining records and preparing reports After completion of the program, a nationally – recognized credential will be issued to the apprentice.
