Senior Transmission Engineer (IV)
Colorado Springs Utilities is hiring a Transmission Engineer to join the Substation and Transmission Engineering group. This opportunity will allow you to perform structural engineering design for our electric transmission system, where you will also be responsible for specifying and procuring transmission equipment and material. Additionally, you will lead the service procurement tasks as well as project and construction management for transmission-related projects for Electric Planning, Electric Construction, Operations, and Energy Supply.
Your engineering expertise and ability to produce quality and accurate designs will ensure that our electric system serves the needs of Colorado Springs Utilities’ transmission and distribution systems today, tomorrow and beyond. The roles and responsibilities of this position fall under three areas; engineering design, project management, and procurement management.
Engineering Design:
Assume responsibility for preparing design packages including project drawings, calculations & specifications and reviewing the same from consultants for externally delivered projects
Assist in developing and documenting appropriate ratings and operational limits for the electric transmission system
Review requests from developers and other entities to ensure compatibility with Utilities’ easements/infrastructure and code compliance
Leading the development and engineering for construction standards
Strengthening technical knowledge as needed for designing transmission projects and specifications and knowledge shared with co-workers and team members
Engaging other groups in the organization in technical discussions and awareness
Producing quality design packages necessary for installing new and replacing aged transmission structures
Providing transmission technical support through planning, design, construction, commissioning, and energization
Project Management:
Provide support to internal line crews including material recommendations, damage assessments, and inventory coordination
Lead system surveys to ensure compliance with NERC/FERC and develop mitigation plans as issues are identified
Overseeing the quality, efficiency, and suitability of all technical project outputs
Facilitating project meetings, and effectively communicating between stakeholders and the project team
Developing scope, schedule, and budget for transmission projects during project planning
Leading project delivery, aligning project scope and execution with technical requirements while keeping projects on time and on budget (Microsoft
Project or Primavera experience preferred)
Gathering all materials and equipment necessary for a project
Coordinating with multiple groups while tracking project changes and reporting project status
Procurement Management:
Coordinating with the procurement department to purchase equipment and services through bid and/or proposal processes
Writing statements of work to fully capture the project needs and procuring materials required for project construction
Monitoring and controlling schedule with contracting service to meet project needs

What will it take to be successful in this position?
A bachelor's degree in Engineering is required to be considered for this position; an emphasis in Transmission engineering with Civil/Structural background is strongly preferred
A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required. Candidates with Project Management Professional (PMP) certification will be highly regarded
A minimum of 7 years of engineering experience is required with at least 5 years including design and engineering of transmission lines (115kV or above)
Proficiency in PLS-CADD is required and experience with PLS-POLE and TOWER is desired
Experience with Lpile and/or MFAD is desirable
Strong background with NESC, ASCE, IEEE and other applicable design standards including familiarity with applying local requirements
Previous experience working with/for a public or private utility is highly preferred
Experience with underground transmission is ideal
Familiarity with ASPEN Line Database or other software used to establish line impedance is desirable
Attention to detail and proven skills in teamwork, collaboration, initiative, communication, and presentation are a must

Key Role:
Design, test, and deploy architectures that include VMWare ESXi
infrastructure, windows domains, and Linux servers. Develop and design
documentation and conduct technical information system security testing
in support of the appropriate security risk management processes using
security assessment and technical testing efforts to identify and patch
vulnerabilities to the systems being developed. Install, configure, and
troubleshoot applications running on Windows and Linux server operating
systems. Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of datacenter design
best practices, rackmount equipment installation and maintenance, cable
management, network attached storage, direct attached storage, and
storage protocols including NFS and iSCSI.
Basic Qualifications:
* Experience with installing and configuring windows domains and
setting up virtual infrastructure leveraging VMWare ESXI
* Experience with setting up and configuring Linux servers
* Experience with building and configuring windows management
services, including SCCM, WSUS, SQL, and Task Flows within SCCM or MDT
* Experience with hardening Windows servers, Linux servers, and VMWare
using Department of Defense (DoD) Security Technical Implementation
Guides (STIGs)
* Knowledge of PKI implementation, including X.509 certificates and
certificate authorities

Nature of the work:

What you can expect working at Fort Carson:
The Electric Distribution Field Technician will assist in the activities related to the construction, operations, and maintenance of the Fort Carson electric distribution system and transformer-fed streetlights.
Under the Intergovernmental Support Agreement (IGSA), Colorado Springs Utilities will be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of Fort Carson’s electric and gas infrastructure, effective January 1, 2023, however, this position will begin as soon as possible. Pursuant to the IGSA, this position will support operations and maintenance of Fort Carson’s existing electric substations, and distribution system up to and including switch gear, transformers, and streetlights fed from transformers in accordance with utilities best practices.
This position will be part of an electric crew that is responsible for managing the construction and maintenance of new developments, commercial construction, outage response, and providing construction crew oversight in both overhead and underground applications at Fort Carson under the IGSA. You will work onsite at Fort Carson but may be called to support Colorado Springs Utilities’ electric transmission and distribution system operations desk as needed.
Within this role, you will be part of a team who is responsible for a wide variety of technical duties and will ensure that all activities adhere to Colorado Springs Utilities Safety Rules and Construction Standards. Job Summary
The Software Engineer is responsible for building and developing software systems in support of satellite systems.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Develop highly reliable software solutions based on the needs of the Engineering Team and mission.
Collaborate with Engineering Team on architecture, design and code review.
Build prototypes to prove out key design concepts and qualifying technical constraints.
Find efficient solutions to user issues and problems with software.

*Position Summary: *Provide support elements for Range 37 and Camp
Mackall. The Exercise Support Cell provides direct support to training
through numerous activities, i.e. general maintenance and repairs,
building of training aids, basic industrial skills to include carpentry,
wood working or metal working, etc.

*Essential Functions:*
?The individual shall provide 1st Special Warfare Training Group
(Airborne) with Range 37 and Camp MacKall support in order to improve
supply management, repair and maintenance of the range on an as needed
basis to improve the customer's operational needs for testing and training
?The support element requires individuals qualified in one of the
appropriate trades, carpenter, electrician, mason, welder, plumber,
wheeled vehicle, grounds maintenance, and roofing.
?The location is primarily Camp MacKall, North Carolina with additional
travel and duties at Fort Bragg and central North Carolina, as required
by training.

?Capable of heavy lifting of 50 pounds and over; heavy carrying of 50
pounds and over; straight pulling (2 hours); pulling hand over hand (2
