27. Just wanted to send you another quick note to let you know about another great opportunity I have in Afghanistan for experienced Foodservice personnel. Details below. This is very short fused as the company will be reviewing resumes this weekend. Subsequently, if you know of anybody who may be interested, have them contact me ASAP at 800-282-0360 ext 140 or at JLutkenhouse@LucasGroup.com so I can get them set up. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give me a shout.

Company: Large Foodservice Company-HQ in Switzerland-Prime Vender for all food for US Troops in Afghanistan. Has additional Operations all over the World. The company buys, stores, ships and delivers the food. The company also has major contracts for Fuels, ammunition and general logistics. $2 billion in Sales in 2009.

Position: Chef Managers overseeing 10 to 30 cooks from foreign countries. This person will be living in very remote and harsh areas of Afghanistan with rudimentary facilities. They will be sleeping in a Tent with 10 to 20 other guys, using portable latrines, working extremely long hours and having very little privacy or recreation time.

Please note: this is A LONG-TERM CAREER type company. They do not focus on short-term contracts. You will be hired as a permanent employee of the company. This means that you can stay as long as YOU want as long as you continue to perform. You will not get the "contract is over, go home" news that allot of other overseas firms do.

Requirements:
Specific Experience managing chefs. Resume needs to clearly show # of chefs managed
Specific experience on resume showing that you have lived and worked in food service on the ground in very rough locations- combat zones, oil wells, Antarctica, etc. (Ships don't count)
Specific culinary training (military or civilian). Again this must be clearly shown on your resume. List ALL cooking courses taken or schools attended for cooking.
Must be fine with sleeping on a cot in a tent with 14 other guys. (Managers have a partition but not much other privacy)
Must have never been convicted of a Felony - even if it was 20+ years ago.
Must have a current Driver's License.
Must have a valid passport or be able to get an expedited passport within 3 days of getting a job offer. (This can be done with a trip to one of the Regional US Passport offices in the following cities: Boston, Chicago, Denver, Norwalk, CT; Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, DC. Costs for your passport fee are not reimbursed by this company). Call 1-877-487-2778 to find our more about this. About 50% of our hires did not have their passports and did the Regional Passport option.
Must be in good physical condition especially when it comes to walking and lifting. This is a rough environment and excellent medical facilities are not immediately available. There are no Medical facilities for prescription drug renewals.
Must be able to start work within 21 days of getting this e-mail and within 1 week of getting your job offer.
Must have an honorable discharge from the US Military and no DUI's or criminal record. (A single DUI more than 5 years ago with no follow on issues or lost license might be passable).

Compensation:

1. Base Salary: $49,404 annual salary plus an annual bonus of $8,460 every time you complete 12 months of service. In addition, for days spent actually at a FOB living in a tent, the person will get an additional $300 a month

A. This salary stays the same whether you are "in country" or on vacation. There is no "uplift" or "hazardous duty pay" or "overtime pay".

B. Because this is a Swiss based company they take out no taxes on your income. This can result in significant savings for you since your gross pay will be your take home pay. If your pay from this company ends up being $60,000 a year and that is not taxed then you would be making the equivalent take home pay that someone working in the United States US might make who has a gross income (before taxes) of $90,000.

Here are general "Unofficial" guidelines on how the tax-free situation works: (Please do not consider Lucas Group as your tax-adviser on this. Please consult your tax-advisor since these rules change frequently) You will need to report your income to the IRS. IRS rules allow for the first $91,500 in income (amount changes often) to be tax-free as long as the person spends no more than 30 days in the United States or its territories in a calendar year. If you start in the middle of the year then you can still enjoy tax-free status since your income will be pro-rated. Example: If you start on June 1st and thus work for 6 months abroad your first year then you would be allowed 15 days (50% of amount for 12 month period) to spend in the US between June and December 31st and still be able to claim tax-free status on that June to December income with the IRS.

2. Additional Benefits:

A. 63 days vacation a year (In three "21 day" increments). Most people will come home for the first R&R and then, to avoid crossing the 30 day tax-free mark, will fly their spouses to Paris or Australia or Canada or Mexico, etc. for the next two trips. If you start 30 days after the new year, don't worry your tax status is "pro-rated" to fit this issue

B. THREE "company paid" round-trip flights home a year (or an equivalent distance/cost if you want to go to Australia or Paris, etc for vacation)

C. All housing, meals and laundry provided free by the company.

D. World-wide Medical Insurance provided free of charge for the employee only. Please NOTE: The family is not covered. Even if the employee wanted to pay extra to cover the family it will not be an option. This is a Swiss based company and they have not access to US Health Care plans.
