We are actively seeking a creative and collaborative individual with a vision for the future of the energy industry to lead distributed energy resource strategy for Colorado Springs Utilities. As a key member of the resource planning leadership team, you will exercise managerial authority and strategic leadership over energy demand side management and distributed energy resource solutions. In this role, you will lead community discussions related to future energy projects and should feel comfortable presenting in front of large groups, executive teams, and regulatory bodies. You and your team will be the technical leaders for the organization on energy efficiency and demand response, energy storage, renewable energy, electric vehicles, microgrids, distributed energy, and other emerging technologies.
As the Managing Engineer of DSM and DER Strategies, you and your team of engineers and technical employees will:
Lead the development of demand side management and distributed energy resource strategy consistent with Utilities’ Energy Vision, and Electric and Gas Integrated Resource Plan goals
Participate in the development and updating of Electric and Gas Integrated Resource Plan goals
Plan and design all demand side management and distributed energy resource programs including energy efficiency and demand response for electric and gas
In coordination with Customer Service and other stakeholder groups, facilitate the implementation and delivery of demand side management and distributed energy resources
Assist Customer Service and other stakeholder groups with the management, marketing and evaluation of customer-facing education, conservation, and distributed energy programs
Optimize Utilities’ portfolio of demand side management and distributed energy resource programs
Perform technical research and development on distributed energy and smart grid strategy, and develop business cases for innovative pilot projects in cooperation with internal and external stakeholders from across the company
Provide leadership for assigned grid modernization projects, initiatives, and activities
Develop strategic plans through a thorough understanding of operational plans, studying existing conditions, and working collaboratively with operational departments
Meet financial objectives by properly preparing an annual budget, forecasting expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions as needed

What will it take to be successful in this position? The ideal candidate will demonstrate a track record of implementing creative and innovative solutions that are strategic and forward-thinking and will come with 5+ years of formal, direct management of engineering staff. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related engineering field is required and a Master’s Degree in engineering or business is preferred. The ideal candidate will also come with experience in demand-side management and/or distributed energy resource strategy, planning, design, and implementation. Professional Engineer registration is preferred.

The Safety and Health Department is looking for an intern to join our enthusiastic and safety-focused team! When working with the safety professionals, you will have the opportunity to support regulatory compliance and improve current processes and Safety & Health Department Initiatives.
This internship does have the opportunity to be a year-round opportunity, starting in May of 2023; year-round consists of FT (40 hours/week) in the summer and PT (max 20 hours/week) during the school year
