1. Veteran internship program
Operation Warfighter (OWF) is a temporary assignment/internship program, developed by the Department of Defense, for service members that are convalescing at military treatment facilities at first in the National Capitol Region but increasingly throughout the United States. The program provides recuperating service members with meaningful activity outside of the hospital environment and offers a formal means of transition back to the military or civilian workforce.
Operation Warfighter is a great opportunity for service members on medical hold to build their resumes, explore employment interests, develop job skills, and gain valuable federal government work experience that will help them prepare for their adjustment to the workplace. Participants must be American citizens who are on active duty in the military (including the National Guard and Reserves). They must also fulfill the security clearance requirements set by the office where they intend to work.
The Department of Homeland Security welcomes these individuals to the Department. Based on their skills, expertise, and interest, Warfighters are placed in host offices and assigned a supervisor and a mentor. Host offices are available in many areas of the Department including human resources, security, operations and administration.
The Warfighter Experience at the Department
Once you are selected to become a Warfighter, your manager will start processing your appointment. You will be asked to complete pre-employment documents which include the Department's security background investigation. The duration of the security clearance process depends on your particular background. Please note, if you have significant foreign travel, and/or foreign relatives or contacts, the security clearance process can be more involved.
You will be assigned a mentor to assist you with in-processing logistics and throughout your assignment. Your mentor is available to orient you to your specific office and the department, provide guidance on how to perform your specific work duties and answer questions you may have.
Duty schedules for OWF participants are determined by your treatment schedule. This flexibility accomodates your medical treatment and is designed to support your well-being and recuperation. You will work about 20 hours per week throughout your assignment, depending on your availability. The DoD OWF Initiative will provide transportation to and from your temporary assignment site at no cost to you.
The length of your assignment is also determined by your unique recuperation status. The average length of an assignment is 3-5 months. During your assignment you may be asked to take training to enhance your existing skills and/or learn new skills.
While there is no guarantee of employment following the completion of an OWF assignment, service members released from medical hold status are considered potential candidates for full-time employment with the Department pending separation from the military.
The Department Benefits from Warfighter Service
While the Warfighter gets the benefits described above, the program simultaneously enables the Department to avail itself of the considerable talent and dedication of these recuperating service members. Since the service members are still receiving their military salaries, they are not compensated by the Department and there is no cost to the Department for bringing a Warfighter onboard.
In fact, the Department of Defense Computer/Electronics Accommodation Program provides all reasonable accommodations to OWFs on assignment to federal agencies. This includes electronic equipment, transportation, sign language interpreter services, etc.
Become a Warfighter
To be considered for an internship through the Operation Warfighter Initiative, please submit your resume and a brief description of the type of temporary assignment you are seeking to owf@hq.dhs.gov.

If you have any additional questions about the Operation Warfighter Initiative, please contact Tanya Cantrell, 202-254-8214.

Job Intro: General Dynamics C4 Systems designs, develops, and integrates highly sophisticated command, control, communications and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems for the U.S. military, federal agencies, civil governments and related international customers. These state-of-the-art systems combine advanced imagery software, multi-sensor integration and collaborative information sharing tools to provide real-time situational awareness to tactical decision makers. Our systems transform large amounts of complex data into useful information that is clearly and intuitively presented to the operators, enabling commanders to make informed decisions in real-time. We build systems for a wide range of global missions including wartime battlefield management, crisis management, peace keeping and contingency operations, drug intervention, and public safety.

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations: GDC4S Battle Management Systems Division (BMSD) currently provides field engineering support to multiple US Government contracts across all branches of the Defense Department including the Army Command Post of the Future (CPOF), Army Common Ground Station (CGS), Army Land Warrior (LW), Army Tactical Airspace Integration System (TAIS), Army PROPHET, Air Force Joint Service Workstation (JSWS), Marine Corps Combat Operations Center (COC) as well as several other Intelligence and Electronic Warfare (IEW), Communications and Simulation systems. To ensure worldwide support for these systems, BMSD's Field Engineering Section maintains a pool of technically proficient Field Systems Engineers and Technician/Trainers with a varied background of hands-on expertise gained through military service, corporate assignments with other companies on similar programs and civilian sector experience and education. The FSE should be proficient in a basic grouping of the identified essential technical skills and abilities, with an emphasis on basic software and system hardware engineering skills. He/she demonstrates potential to acquire and develop remaining skills and to expand overall responsibilities and may possess unique specialty skills that must be maintained with the Field Engineering Section. Primary responsibility is for equipment/system support, with a basic understanding of system tactical employment and optimization. The potential candidate should possess experience in accurately identifying failures and applying corrective actions in accordance with proper procedures and then documenting the final results in a logical, understandable written format or verbal presentation.
The potential candidate must be capable of transitioning between like or similar systems on very short notice to meet individual customer needs. To this end, a key trait for this position is personal and professional flexibility to not only migrate expertise gained on one system/program to another but also be capable of short notice travel for durations ranging from 1-2 days up to 6 months or a year and may include assignments to a State Department declared contingency or military combat zone. Long-term assignments to overseas countries are also required on a case-by-case basis. Individual FSE knowledge, skills and abilities, as determined by the Section Manager, to compliment specific customer needs, will be considered prior to FSE selection. This could be within the state of Arizona, across the United States or outside the Continental United States (OCONUS). To this end, the potential candidate must posses a Secret/Top Secret Clearance based on a current background investigation and be capable of obtaining a US Passport. This candidate will be required to travel 60% or more in support of mission requirements.

Specific Requirement: Must be capable of passing a Department of Defense (DOD) physical for deployment to a State Department declared Contingency or Combat Zone. This position is for the Land Warrior Team Lead position supervising 4-6 junior FSE's. To this end, the highly qualified candidate will have recent experience using/supervising Land Warrior soldiers, preferably in a Combat Zone, and have current military experience at the enlisted grade of E-7 or above or any commissioned officer grade. 38. AFRICOM ISR Mgr & Analysts (deployable)(TS/SCI eligible)
This is a contract that one of my outstanding customers is going after. The contract won't be awarded until September and the work won't start until October 1, 2010 if awarded to my customer. They will be offering contingent offers to qualified candidates. Two things that are a little unique about these positions; one is they only require qualified applicants to be TS/SCI eligible except for the Collection Manager which requires a current TS/SCI and the second one is you can live wherever you want and just deploy from home as required.

They are still putting together how they want the deployment schedule to work. They are currently looking at 2 different deployment cycles for each position. Either 90 days in country with approximately 2 weeks of training and cross-over, 70 days off or 60 day deployment cycles with approximately 2 weeks of training and cross-over, 40 days off.

When not deployed, employees will be home and not expected to perform any work related to duties. They would only be expected to close out paperwork related to their current deployment (vouchers, medical checks, etc.)

There will be incentive pay while downrange. This will all be calculated evenly throughout the monthly salary payments so individuals can maintain a steady paycheck.

Some of the positions within Africa are "deployment like" locations so they want people that are used to those deployment conditions. This company has excellent benefits along with long term stable employment.

If anyone is interested; please send me an updated resume in Word and tell me which position you are interested in.
