9. Staubli Corp Opportunity, San Diego, CA, Sales Representative

Staubli Corporation is a world-wide manufacturer of highly technical items. Founded about 104 years ago and based in Switzerland, the company is still privately held and the Staubli family is still involved. We are a very stable company with just about 4000 employees world wide. The company is split into three business sectors: Textile equipment, industrial robots, and connectors (i.e. pneumatic, hydraulic quick disconnects). I work in the connectors division, and provide the product leadership for defense and aerospace products in North America. Most of our products are made in France, in a small town just over the border from Geneva, Switzerland.

We do not sell through distributors, but instead we prefer to place sales engineers strategically around the country. We have one sales engineer who lives in Orange County, and our West Coast regional Manager lives in Temecula, but we need someone with defense and or aerospace experience to call on those industries in Southern California. I am convinced that we are missing significant sales opportunities there because the one person that we have has his hands full servicing other industries.

This is, obviously, a sales position. But we require our sales engineers to work directly with customers, often on complex projects, We have engineering and other support available here in South Carolina, and we travel around much of the year supporting the sales staff on their projects, but the sales engineer is our front line personnel.

The posting for this position will not be out until the end of December, but I am trying to reach out to some AMDOs thinking that this would be a good position if they were interested in a technical sales environment. I had no idea about the diversity of these products until I got involved, and I continue to be amazed on a regular basis. These are not the connectors used on the compressor in your garage - I am working on a project for the main rotor dampening on the new CH-53K.
