29. FLEET & EQUIPMENT MANAGER, GS-2150-7/9/11 - GLENWOOD SPRINGS, CO
WHITE RIVER NATIONAL FOREST SUPERVISOR’S OFFICE, GLENWOOD SPRINGS, CO
RESPOND BY MAY 27, 2016
If you are looking for a rewarding professional opportunity and enjoy the wide range of recreational pursuits found in Colorado’s high country, we are looking to hire a Fleet & Equipment Manager (GS-2150-11) and possibly a GS-2150-7/9 Assistant Fleet Manager depending on outreach responses. This is a permanent, full-time position the Forest will be looking to fill within the next few months. This outreach is being circulated to inform prospective applicants of this unique opportunity and to quantify interest in these positions.
The fleet manager assists in developing policies, oversees administrative procedures and operational oversight for all fleet management functions, processing of vehicle and equipment requests, equipment inspection when vehicles are purchased and prepared for excess, preparing vehicles for assignment, utilization, replacement and disposal; and takes initiative to optimize the fleet for sustainability and savings.
DESIRED QUALITIES:
• Comprehensive, practical knowledge of a wide range of transportation regulations; Forest Service policies, practices and procedures; and operations in order to plan, establish and monitor the forest fleet program.
• Thorough knowledge of agency policies and procedures in order to develop new policies to meet local operating requirements.
• Knowledge of WCF fleet management program and accounting procedures, vehicle and equipment characteristics and practices, vehicle acquisition, and vehicle disposal procedures.
• Knowledge of fleet and equipment capabilities in order to determine type of vehicles and equipment needed for forest work and to properly and safely modify equipment to meet special requirements of forest work and energy conservation standards.
• Knowledge of database management, government purchasing rules
• Ability to plan for future needs and find savings opportunities
The fleet shop supports the other specialists in the supervisor’s office and five geographically separated ranger districts. To be successful in this job you must be a self-starter, a team player, and able to work without day-to-day direction. The incumbent must be an excellent communicator, extremely professional, and ready to work with internal staff and external partners to accomplish shared goals. Additionally, you must be prepared to operate in a dynamic work environment that can be challenging, yet incredibly rewarding.
THE WHITE RIVER NATIONAL FOREST: The Forest was established in 1891 as the White River Plateau Timber Reserve, the second such reserve to be named in the United States. It was one of the initial land reserves that started the public land system in America. But long before this designation, the Forest was home to the Ute Indians who followed herds of elk and bison on their seasonal migrations.
Today the Forest embodies the spirit of multiple-use management with more than 9 million visitors per year, making the White River the No. 1 forest for recreation in the country. In addition to world-class recreation and abundant wildlife populations, the White River hosts activities such as grazing, logging, mining, and oil and gas development that are crucial to the economies of western Colorado.
The White River National Forest spans 2.3 million acres and is located in Eagle, Garfield, Pitkin, Summit, Gunnison, Mesa, Moffat, Rio Blanco and Routt counties in Colorado. In addition, the Forest serves as a playground for Denver and the rest of the Front Range.
GLENWOOD SPRINGS: Glenwood Springs is home to just under 10,000 people and sits at the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Colorado Rivers, 180 miles west of Denver and 70 miles east of Grand Junction. It was named the “Most Fun Small Town in America” by Rand McNally/USA Today. For more information about climate, schools, etc., please see: http://www.city-data.com/city/Glenwood-Springs-Colorado.html
The quality of life is great, but the cost of living is high! Please do your research carefully. Housing rental rates range from $1000-$1600 per month for a two-bedroom condominium with single-family homes renting from $2000-$3000 per month. The market for purchasing has been rebounding rapidly. Deals can be found, but for the most part prices range from “that’s-a-little-more-expensive-than-I’d-hoped” to “if-you-could-afford-it-you-wouldn’t-be-working-for-the-Forest-Service”. These costs are reflective of the highly desirable quality of life available in the Roaring Fork Valley. However, nearby communities such as New Castle (10 miles away) and Rifle (30 miles away) provide housing and rentals at much more affordable rates and there is even a bus service between the communities directly to the Supervisor’s Office.
HOW TO EXPRESS INTEREST: This outreach effort will gauge interest in this permanent position. Please complete and return the response form with resume to Greg Rosenmerkel, Engineering, Minerals and Fleet Staff Officer (gregoryrosenmerkel@fs.fed.us or 970-945-3205). Please respond by May 27, 2016.

Objective or Summary?
I am sure you’ve received advice from transition offices, recruiters, friends, and in some cases your mother-in-law. Here’s the deal – include an Objective Statement – not a Summary. When recruiters take that initial 60-90 seconds to screen your resume they want to know based on your background, skillsets, education what YOU WANT TO DO. A Summary Statement says what you HAVE DONE or CAN DO. The recruiter will make the call on your capabilities and how you may ADD VALUE to their organization. Objective should be brief, succinct and speak to your career track.
EMPLOYERS REGISTERED – More to Come!
Abbott, Aetna, Amazon, Avanade, Bechtel Plant Machinery, CB&I, Coca-Cola, Deloitte, Eaton, Edward Jones, Farmers, FBI, General Mills, General Motors, Georgia Pacific, Harland Clarke, H-E-B, Johnson & Johnson, JPMorgan Chase, Koch Industries, KPMG, Los Alamos National Lab, Microsoft, PNC, Robbins Gioia, Sears Holdings Corp, Tesoro, Travelers, Trinity Industries, Turner Construction, USCBP, USAA, Walmart Logistics, West Corporation
If you no longer wish to receive maxwix email, please place UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line and reply.
When you become employed, reach back and help a fellow Serviceman or woman over the wall.
What goes around, comes around. Help when and where you can.
You, a family member or friend could be next to need a job.
Very Respectfully, Non sibi sed patriae and Semper Fidelis,
Max Wix
