JOB DESCRIPTION

1. POSITION TITLE: Photojournalist

DEPARTMENT: PAO

SUMMARY/GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Photo Journalist will provide support services to the Public Affairs Office (PAO). This support encompasses performing media coverage for mobilization and deployment of soldiers and units on Fort Carson.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Provide Photojournalist Support Services.
• Augment the Public Affairs Office by photographing and writing stories for mobilization, deployment and redeployment of units on Fort Carson.
• Ability to use the AP style guide format to write and edit own work.
• Knowledge of Army structures to include rank and unit sizes.
• Provide Journalist services by providing coverage of unit arrivals and departures through photographs and writing stories for Hometown News releases.
• Cover stories for local units that deployed into theatre.
• Assemble information packets consisting of standard PAO guidance, hometown news release instructions, media policy in military operations information, casualty affairs administrative information and other appropriate information.
• Must be able to communicate information through verbal and visual means with the use of operating a still digital electronic camera; ability to operate computerized electronic photographic imaging through a computerized generated graphic arts software program.
• Provide customer assistance with planning the most effective use of visual products to attain the desired results on custom projects.
• Participate in developing a plan to produce more complex products using a combination of available multimedia and graphic means.
• Provide assistance to the Mountaineer editor in developing and planning products using available multimedia and graphic means.
• Perform photography assignments indoors and outdoors documenting events on and around Fort Carson
• Photo editing via computer software, printing and cropping of photos.
• Perform work in the design, production and display of graphic materials with familiarity of computerized outputs and printing.
• Use graphic software to design, create and produce customer driven requirements in compliance with Department of Defense, Department of Army, and DOIM Audio Visual Branch guidelines.
• Performs operator maintenance on all equipment used.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, & Professional Association):

Mandatory:
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain a Confidential level clearance with a favorable background check
• Must have knowledge with Desktop Publishing programs, Adobe Photoshop 6.0, and Quark Xpress.

Preferred:
• Degree in Photo Journalism or Visual Communication, or background/experience working for a newspaper or experience as a journalist. English major a plus.
• Military background, Ability to provide samples of previous work, i.e. picture portfolio, written ads/newspaper adds.

The STX Coordinator will possess organization, management and leadership skills. b. Tactical HUMIT SMEs will have a minimum of ten (10) years HUMINT, including combat/contingency operation experience. Tactical HUMINT SMEs will meet the following minimum requirements: HCT leader experience, previous deployment to the Balkans, Iraq or Afghanistan contingency environment in a tactical HUMINT capacity, and formally trained in an appropriate Allied military service or DoD school. Tactical HUMINT SME personnel will have solid and varied experience in mentorship of methodologies with knowledge of HCT operations. Contractor will understand collection, dissemination, analysis, production and information technologies used to support the CAMO training event.



c. HUMINT analysis SMEs will have a minimum of five (5) years previous experience in tactical HUMINT analysis, preferably in a deployed area in support of a contingency operation in the Balkans, Iraq or Afghanistan.



d. G2X SMEs will have at least five (5) years of deployment experience in order to mentor a G/J2X cell to operate in the Balkans, Iraq or Afghanistan areas in support of a contingency operation.



e. OMT SMEs will have a minimum of five (5) years previous OMT experience, in addition to the requirements for Tactical HUMINT SMEs as listed in Para 1.4.1.1. (b) above. Waiver for individual candidates based on unique individual experience is possible with the approval of the USAREUR G2X or designated government representative.



f. The Tactical CI SME will have a minimum of five (5) years previous experience in tactical CI operations. Previous deployment experience to the Balkans, Iraq or Afghanistan combat area in a tactical CI capacity in support of U.S. Operations is essential.



All SMEs will have strong communications, briefing, writing and organizational skills and be able to research, staff, integrate, write, and modify a complete Program of Instruction (POI), and corresponding situational training exercise. The exercise may require SMEs to participate in minimal nighttime scenarios without the use of linguist or role player support. SMEs will be required to provide written individual participant performance assessments due on the last day of the situational training exercise.
