In this position, you will become a key member of a team of Utility Systems Repairer Operators. You will ensure the operation, integrity, reliability, and availability of critical utility systems. This is a developmental position with promotion potential to the WG-12. Typical work assignments at the full performance level include:
• Independently performing technical work of a high degree of difficulty requiring the exercise of originality, initiative, and practical judgment in the application and adaptation of standardized engineering techniques and methods.
• Operating, maintaining, installing, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems to provide specific and critical environmental conditions in special purpose facilities.
• Operating and monitoring Building Management Control Systems (BCMS) which monitor and control the environment in nearly all buildings at Mount Weather.
• Serving as an electrical power controller for the MWEOC power generation and distribution system.
• Operating, maintaining, installing, and repairing diesel power generation equipment necessary to provide continuous electrical power to critical facilities and activities.

Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in an office setting or in industrial areas, at times under conditions of extreme stress caused by the need to keep all equipment fully operational. There are exposures to adverse conditions, such as dust, dirt, extremes of temperature and high noise levels. May perform duties under extreme mental tension and stress and must be emotionally capable of working in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time. There is the possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Employee is exposed to the dangers of moving equipment, energized electrical circuits, sharp metal edges, and to fumes. Employee is required to operate large valves, lift grates/hatches, and other jobs requiring up to 75 pounds of pulling or turning force. Work requires prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, pushing, and kneeling.
Works on a rotating shift, inside, in well-lighted areas. Works outdoors for short periods with exposure to climate extremes. Occasionally works in proximity to high voltages and currents. Incumbent is often exposed to equipment and machinery noises, and is subject to the discomfort of wearing safety equipment such as hard hats, ear plugs, and breathing apparatuses. Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing. Work is also performed on uneven surfaces, outdoors and indoors, including steep inclines on rock or gravel surfaces and unimproved areas. Required to work in hot, cold, damp drafty areas and confined spaces, crawl spaces, and under floors.

Job Summary
Supervise train crews on a freight train and coordinate switch engine crews. Place cars to facilitate loading and unloading and the makeup and breakdown of trains in a rail yard, industrial plant, or similar locations.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
• Ensure compliance with all train orders, signals, and railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
• Review instructions from dispatchers and yardmasters, and discuss with locomotive engineer and train crew
• Inspect all equipment on cars prior to departures
• Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone
• Read and understand bulletins, work orders, and switch lists
• Assist and instruct train crews to couple and uncouple cars, operate switches, and make minor repairs to railcars, including replacing heavy couplings or air brake hoses
• Work with customers to ensure accurate movement and placement of cars
• Maintain awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure rail safety
• Operate locomotive equipment through the use of remote control device

Training
You will attend six weeks of training at the Railroad Education & Development Institute (REDI) in Atlanta, GA. CSX will pay for travel, lodging and meals. You will complete an additional 8-22 weeks of on-the-job training at your assigned location as required by collective bargaining agreement.

Job Summary
Supervise train crews on a freight train and coordinate switch engine crews. Place cars to facilitate loading and unloading and the makeup and breakdown of trains in a rail yard, industrial plant, or similar locations.
