Operation of Equipment: 30% The firefighter drives and operates a full range of firefighting equipment to include structural 1500 gallon per minute fire engines, 3000 gallon water tender/engine, 3000 gallon aircraft rescue firefighting truck, 100 foot Aerial truck, all terrain brush vehicle, large technical rescue truck and several trailers of specialize equipment. Drives and positions vehicle to best serve firefighting crews at any type of emergency incident. Additionally, firefighters are expected to: • Monitor gauges, flow devices, engine indicators and initial personnel accountability. • Stay prepared to provide any support to firefighting crew inside hazardous areas. • Maintain constant awareness of safe driving and backing techniques while operating all equipment. • Perform apparatus and equipment inspections routinely reporting any equipment deficiencies or failures to supervisor. • Inspect operational readiness of fire apparatus, medic units, and various types of equipment. Training: 20% Firefighters participate in an extensive on-going training program designed and modified routinely to prepare firefighter personnel for all areas of emergency response. Firefighters train daily to re-enforce special areas of critical danger such as hazardous material response and technical rescue. Firefighter personnel must maintain constant awareness of technology changes and improvements to state of the art equipment. Firefighters design and practices pre-incident plans for all types of facilities and emergencies.
