The time “Dear Sirs” was an acceptable way to address anyone in applying for a new position is LONG gone. What does someone think when they read “Sirs”??? That you are assuming that anyone in a position to make a decision is a man because a woman could just NEVER be in a position of authority capable of making a decision about hiring and/or that you would have a problem working for a woman if it IS a woman as the hiring manager. “To Whom it May Concern”, “Hiring Authority”, etc. – should be used. NEVER should “Sirs” be used.
