REQUIREMENTS: • Personnel shall possess knowledge and verbal skills required to interact with patients. The contract personnel will perform initial and routine pertinent medical history collections. In collection of the medical history, the contract personnel must possess an understanding of disease processes and treatment courses. The contract personnel will be required to transfer medical history and physiological assessment data into various electronic medical health records. The contract personnel shall accurately document data and patient history and findings into the electronic medical record. The documentation must be clear and concise and easily interpreted by others that possess similar or advanced training and understanding in the medical community. • Utilize customer service skills that are designed to optimize the interaction between the patient and the health care team. Customer service skills include personal interaction and communication skills, appropriate use of patient advocacy and resolution of customer complaints at the lowest level and elevation to patient advocate as necessary. • Perform patient care in a Hyperbaric and Wound Care Center. Patient care will be defined as those skills associated within the licensed vocational nursing scope of care. Daily responsibilities will surround the application of wound dressings, compression wraps, the appropriate knowledge and administration skills of topical, oral and parenteral medications, and the care required to support patients referred for care as indicated by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society: http://membership.uhms.org/?page=Indications. Patient care may occur inside of a Class A Hyperbaric Chamber that is compressed to an approved treatment pressure. • Be required to collect and appropriately label routine digital images of wounds and maintain a secure image library to account for patient wound progress. The contract personnel will be accountable to maintain the laws governing patient confidentiality and the appropriate protection of that data and information. • Should possess skills and knowledge to perform physiological studies to measure patient health status to include, basic vital signs, pulse oximetry readings, transcutaneous oxygen monitoring studies, and ankle-brachial index study (periflux laser Doppler perfusion monitoring). • Will be required to maintain the knowledge and skills to operate medical devices that support life support monitoring, intravenous infusion, ventilatory support, emergency intervention of collapsed lung, and other various devices associated with cardiac life support. • At any time during the contract period, the contract employee will be trained to the level of hyperbaric operator. Training will be conducted by the COR, or designated government employee, during duty hours of performance at the duty location. Upon completion of local hyperbaric chamber operator training the contract employee will be assigned to perform duties as the Chamber Operator of a Fink DL8 Class A Hyperbaric Chamber or of a Perry Baromedical Class B Monoplace Hyperbaric Chamber, or of the equivalent available chamber in use at the treatment facility. As Chamber Operator, the contract employee must exercise all safety practices common to the designated chamber operation. The Chamber Operator must maintain a working knowledge of the emergency response procedures pertinent to the position. As a Chamber Operator, the contract employee will be required to assist emergency movements of patients when required, to include maintaining hyperbaric chamber operations during emergency situations that includes staff and patient evacuation. • Shall possess knowledge and apply techniques utilized in the prevention of disease transmission that are centered on infection control procedures. This includes appropriate timeliness and effectiveness of hand washing, the proper preparation and handling of sterile and clean instruments within the fields of wound care, and the correct disposition of soiled/contaminated instruments. The contract personnel will be accountable to assemble/prepare the correct supplies and instruments for upcoming and future wound care treatments. • Be able to support patient requirements and research efforts. Patient requirements vary and should be defined as those short term, clinic related requirements that support activities of daily living. Research efforts vary and may relate to both human and animal subjects. Any research activity requirements would be defined by a clinical research coordinator. • Perform Inside Attendant (IA) duties as needed within a Class A Hyperbaric Chamber from one to six times per month. • Personnel shall conduct research and submit requests to equipment/supply custodians for new and replacement supplies/equipment that support a productive and forward thinking medical practice. The contract personnel shall maintain bench stock item inventory. The contractor shall be able to assist in developing training requirements and to provide training as needed. • Complete the Initial profile package requirements. The Contract Personnel must be able to provide in-service briefings. The contractor’s personnel shall be required to enter patient and chamber dive data into a web based Hyperbaric Storage Program, or equivalent program. • Personnel shall be a graduate of a forty (40) hour Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) Designated Introductory Course in Hyperbaric Medicine. They shall be knowledgeable about compression physics and the mechanical effects of pressure change as it relates to the hyperbaric chamber and its occupants. The contract personnel shall understand the physiological basis and clinical aspects of decompression sickness and arterial gas embolism. The contract personnel shall understand and use U.S. Navy decompression tables, NOBENDEM decompression tables, and hyperbaric patient treatment tables as directed. The contractor shall apply chamber safety to the everyday working environment and follow emergency procedure checklists in the event an emergency occurs. If the contract employee is not a graduate of the afore mentioned course, they will need to successfully accomplish this course and provide a certificate of training within 60 days of start of duty. Completion of this course is not available through the work area and must be attained through civilian channels. Fees associated with attendance of this course will not be charged to the government. • Should have experience handling blood and body fluids and other potentially infectious material soiled patient linens.
