Engineering Interns Operations Engineering Group
Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking to fill two engineering internships to support the engineering needs of the Operations Engineering Group which supports the operations of power generating facilities. In this internship, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks and projects to support the operational needs of the organization. 
We have two year-round and/or summer internships available starting in the summer of 2024
One in Mechanical Engineering
One in Electrical Engineering
During the summer of 2024, interns will be expected to work full-time, 40 hours/week; during the school year, interns will work part-time with the expectation of a minimum of 10 hours/week and up to 20 hours/week at each intern’s discretion based on school workload
Some of the specific responsibilities while in this internship will include the following: 
Execute daily activities with a constant focus upon safety, including:
Following safe work practices to ensure personal safety
Making safety suggestions
Participating in pre-job safety briefings
Considering safety during task and project execution
Assist in the execution of engineering work, including:
Preparation of plans, designs, drawings, specifications, estimates, studies, schedules, recommendations, and reports associated with the implementation of tasks and small projects
Data analysis
Performance software maintenance and development
Control system optimization and maintenance
Consult with engineers, manufacturers, and others in investigating and troubleshooting operations and maintenance issues of plant equipment
Assist with the preparation of plant operations and maintenance performance reports, cost analysis, asset maintenance plans, asset optimization activities; provide recommendations based on analysis
Support operations and maintenance activities
Gather data and prepare technical reports, charts, and graphs, and apply engineering principles in the reporting and solution of engineering problems
Maintain records of activities and prepare reports on tests, research projects, and operational characteristics of machinery and equipment and their impact on plant performance
Review system drawings to identify discrepancies; update drawings to correct discrepancies
Assist with conducting studies and preparing reports

Substation Technician

Experience this for yourself by joining our Substation Operations group as a Journey-level Substation Technician.  In this job, you will play a critical role in the construction, maintenance, and safe operations of low to high-voltage substation equipment.  This includes troubleshooting equipment and diagnosing malfunctions of electric, electromechanical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic oil, and gas components of the substation and customer equipment.  You will also play an important role in training and educating apprentices on our team.
Starting pay rate for a Substation Technician is $54.11/hr. Your pay rate will increase to $56.82/hr upon successfully completing probation (typically 6 months).
This position is eligible for relocation assistance
Key Areas of Focus:
Adjusting, calibrating, repairing, and replacing substation equipment as appropriate
Installing, testing, and maintaining substation equipment and customers equipment
Testing substation components using sophisticated test equipment and being able to interpret test results (Power factor testing, breaker timing and travel testing, battery capacity and resistance test, and DGA and dielectric test of oil filled apparatus)
Performing equipment inspections and preventative maintenance
Constructing new and modifying existing substations
Assisting the engineering department with new construction and redesign of facilities and comparing specifications of new equipment (Power factor testing, breaker timing and travel testing, battery load test)
Providing technical advice to contractors and other utility departments including cable technicians, linemen, power plants, apparatus shop, and troubleshooters
Responding to emergency situations and making appropriate decisions involving substation equipment
Ensuring safe working conditions for all personnel and equipment
Providing training, technical guidance, proper work techniques and procedures, and safety procedures to substation apprentices and other crew members
Who you are…To qualify as a journey-level substation technician you will have completed a five-year substation apprenticeship or equivalent formal training program and offer one or more years of demonstrated experience working at the journey level.  
In lieu of a formal training program, we will consider applicants who bring 5+ years of specialized experience leading inspections, testing, maintenance, and operations activities for substation electrical equipment.
Additionally, please note the following certification and licensing requirements:
Driving a Colorado Springs Utilities commercial vehicle is required for this position, as such, the successful candidate must have and maintain a valid
Driver’s License (without restrictions)

Supply Chain Operations Internship
At Colorado Springs Utilities, the work of Supply Chain Operations offers a unique opportunity for college students to learn about the careful management of warehouse materials that includes disposal of assets, program and project management, financial analysis and much more.  This work is unique in that it offers the opportunity to develop business plans and allows for opportunities to network within Colorado Springs Uitlties to implement those plans.  The many learning experiences acquired within the Supply Chain Operations department offers a well-balanced introduction into our industry and on our business.    
A Supply Chain Operations Internship offers the following learning opportunities:
Overview of materials and resource management in Colorado Springs Utilities.
The programs and best practices of data management and utilization for business case development. 
Exposure to project management skills (tools, follow-through, reporting, etc.) to ensure careful processes and standards are followed in program implementation.
Extensive training and field experience in customer sharing, education and conflict resolution including tools and services to support same.
Opportunities according to aptitude and enthusiasm to explore further education in specific types of materials, vendor relarionships and management, demand management, planning and materials acquisition for vehicles and projects.

Our Water and Wastewater Inspections team is seeking a Water/Wastewater Pipeline Inspector to ensure the quality, safety, and performance of our pipeline systems by inspecting the repair, replacement, and installation of water and wastewater services. Salary at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not

Watershed Planning Internship
At Colorado Springs Utilities, the Watershed Planning Group works to manage landscapes with various partners to protect and enhance ecosystems in continued efforts for watershed protection and restoration. POSITION SUMMARY
The Operations Administrative Specialist is responsible for maintaining,

*Position Summary:*
The Recovery Care Coordinator (RCC) is responsible for oversight for the
Recovering Service Member (RSM) and family through the continuum of
care. Responsibilities encompass the full spectrum of care, services,
and benefits needed for holistic recovery of the whole person and
life?long continuity of care.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Not listed in order of
importance; other duties may be assigned)*
1. Serve as focal point to assist the RSM in his/her course through the
entire spectrum of non-medical care, management, reintegration, and
rehabilitation services available from the Federal Government, including
services provided by the Department of Defense, the Department of
Veterans Affairs, the Department of Labor, and the Social Security
Administration.
2. Communicate with the RSM and his/her family or other individuals
designated by the RSM regarding non-medical matters that arise during
his/her recovery, rehabilitation, reintegration and/or transition.
3. In accordance with current DoD and VA Interagency Care Coordination,
serve as the lead coordinator responsible for the development and
delivery of services/resources through the Comprehensive Recovery Plan
(CRP) to ensure quality care and accountability as soon as the RSM
transitions to outpatient status.
4. Conduct a needs assessment for the RSM and family to identify goals
and ensure needs are met. Based on RSM?s needs, develop, implement, and
provide oversight of the CRP as defined in DODI 1300.24.
5. Conduct CRP briefings with RSM?s unit leadership and/or unit
immersion briefings for newly assigned unit commanders within 60-days of
assignment as directed by Site Lead (SL) or Regional Lead (RL.)
6. Investigate, assess, and reassess when necessary; all client cases
involving multiple variables to determine both tangible and intangible
needs across the spectrum of DoD care domains within the CRP.
7. Seek the best possible outcome for the RSM through conventional and
unconventional processes per governing regulatory guidance. Utilize all
available sources, e.g., the National Research Directory lists, SOF
specific information and benefits, VA benefits, programs, and Family
Readiness Centers to develop comprehensive solutions within the DoD care
domains of the RCP.
8. Establish trust and build rapport with stakeholders in the warrior
care process to effectively influence COA execution.
9. Facilitate expeditious and timely delivery of treatment and service.
Identify gaps in medical/non-medical services, intervene as necessary to
expedite outcomes and assist with coordination of resources to develop
and improve outcomes for enhanced delivery of services such as financial
counseling, spouse employment assistance, respite care information, and
childcare assistance, etc. and resources available through the National
Resource Directory and other sources.
10. Ensure detailed updates are made to the CRP as defined in applicable
guidance and USSOCOM operational requirements.
11. Coordinate/communicate to ensure successful transfer of RSM?s CRP
should he/she be moved to a different location for care.
12. Inactivate the CRP when the RSM has met all goals or declines
further support and maintain all documents according to applicable
USSOCOM policies.
13. Consult and collaborate with Multidisciplinary Teams during initial
treatment phase and continuing throughout the continuum of care,
including support during the disability evaluation system process.
14. Ensure the RSM, family, and/or caregivers have access to all medical
and non-medical care management services including, but not limited to
medical care, rehabilitation, education, employment-related programs,
and disability benefits.
15. Manage the CRP, anticipating future challenges during phases of
recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration. Review and make
modifications in conjunction with the Recovery Team supporting the RSM,
family and/or caregiver.
16. Maintain communications and coordinate with agencies, in
coordination with and under the direction of the WCP to ensure delivery
of assistance and to resolve conflicts.
17. Assist in coordinating local and state resources, including referral
to Governmental and non-Governmental agencies, state and local services
and agencies, as appropriate, where the RSM and family reside.
18. Maintain detailed records of the RSM to document delivery of
benefits and medical and non-medical care.
19. Collaborate as needed with community partners such as veteran
organizations, Family Readiness Centers, training, and employment
resources both on and off the installation to form a pool of resources
to support the care of RSMs, their families, and caregivers.

Distribution and Collection Specialist Apprentice
The Distribution and Collection Specialist Apprenticeship at Colorado Springs Utilities prepares participants to become journey-level Distribution and Collection Specialists.  The program is registered with the Department of Labor (DOL). Apprentices are paid employees who produce high-quality work while they learn skills. The program consists of on-the-job learning which develops skilled workers through structured learning in a work setting.  The apprenticeship also provides apprentices with the support of a skilled worker to assist and enhance critical hands-on learning. 
The Distribution and Collection Specialist apprenticeship is a 3.5-year, eight-step on-the-job learning and technical instructional program. Each of the 3.5 years’ is separated into "blocks", containing self-study lessons and identifying the required assessments and task performance evaluations (TPEs). The participant progresses through the program by successfully filling the needed blocks and completing the required review processes.  
This apprenticeship requires completion of specific state certifications which requires passing a state proctored exam with a score of 70% or better. In order to take the state exam, you must have a high school diploma or GED. Study material is provided to each apprentice and the following certifications will be obtained during the apprenticeship; Wastewater Collections I Certification (within year 1) and Wastewater Collection II Certification (within year 3).
During the program, these are the core work duties you will focus on and gain experience to:
Maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting wastewater systems and pipelines through the use of high-velocity jet-vac equipment
Operating wastewater manhole and water valve box adjustment equipment
Installing, repairing, removing, and replacing gravity pipelines
Operating wastewater pumping, flushing, and transporting equipment
Operating manhole rehabilitation equipment
Operating CCTV (closed-circuit television) equipment
Troubleshooting and analyzing problems and issues in the collection system and making corrective changes
Maintaining, calibrating, and operating equipment
Inspecting, testing, and preparing confined spaces for safe entry
Maintaining records and preparing reports
After completion of the program, a nationally – recognized credential will be issued to the apprentice.  We are committed to your development and success!
Who You are...
Typical successful candidate will have at least 2 years of construction experience
Additionally, we are seeking candidates with wastewater construction experience related to the operation and maintenance of the collection or distribution systems
A high school diploma or GED is required
Compliance with all construction and maintenance safety regulations and standard operating procedures is required
A valid driver’s license is required for this role
The ability to obtain a CDL Class A license within one year of hire is required
Available to work overtime hours and availability for emergency after-hours callouts for support will be required
Stand-by time (7 days a week) may be expected from each apprentice after about 12 months of training

This position is part of a formal apprenticeship program within the Distribution and Collection Apprentice trade. As such, pay for this position will begin at $28.29/hour and will progress throughout the duration of the apprenticeship based on the pay schedule below
Previous Collection and Distribution Apprentice training with documented paperwork, can potentially impact level at which you start and commensurate pay
Upon successful completion of each step of the program (8-step program/6 months on average per step), you will receive a pay increase based on the schedule below.  After successfully completing the program in its entirety, your turnout rate will be $39.29/hr.
