Special notes:
A series of particularly beneficial websites, offered by Steve Gallison, Director, and his staff at
Professional Outplacement Assistance Center, Columbia, Maryland include:
www.dllr.state.md.us/poac for links to downloadable websites for recruiters, agencies, and employers.
www.dllr.state.md.us/poac/metalist for a major (mega) list of employers in the region. POAC's www.dllr.state.md.us/poac/dir features the most active employers in the area. POAC's list also includes:
Federal Jobs and related information about federal programs at http://opm.gov/, and Gallison points out that http://Govexec.com will provide excellent insights into the Federal Government. For Disabilities and Employment Issues Gallison recommends: http://www.dol.gov/odep/.
For Salary and Negotiations information, http://salary.com/salary/layoutscripts/sall_display.asp; and www.shapironegotiations.com/Resources/Newsletters.cfm. Also,
http://drewsoftware.com/Download.html; http://queendom.com/test/; and
www.career-design/merchant/CareerChange.htm.
Here are some the more popular sites for specific job search, career fairs, and career management information:
For Job Seekers looking for pertinent, relevant terms for their resumes you might visit the Occupational
Information Network’s database of job descriptions at http://online.onetcenter.org/help/online/tips. There are descriptive terms for most of the standard career fields.
For companies that require security clearances it is strongly recommended that the following format be incorporated into your resume. In your “Heading” (your name, street address, city and telephone) be sure
to show your e-mail address and your security clearance immediately below. These are the first two items
the recruiter and the company want to know whether at a job fair, when pulling your resume off the web or when you send your resume electronically, by fax or snail-mail.
Check www.InformationCareers.com for IT opportunities outside of the areas requiring security clearances. More and more opportunities are being identified in Competitive Marketing, Information Management and
Knowledge Management fields. Currently those without clearances will need to show previously held
positions that required aclearance. Check www.IntelligenceCareers.com for positions listings. The latest
edition to this family of websites is www.ThinkingJobs.com, a site for opportunities that do not require a security clearance.
Another excellent resource for the Job Seeker is www.careerxroads.com for the quality information on web sites, and also for niche sites and the Nonprofit arena. When looking at Nonprofits and you require financial information go to www.guidestar.org.
A site for Technology Professionals that lists technical groups and their meetings, by geographic or subject area is www.JobCircle.com/public/events.
A site for nonprofits, their management, general data and salary information is BoardSource, formerly the National Center for Nonprofit Boards, is www.boardsource.org.
Check out the web site www.idealist.org for quality information and periodic Job Fairs for the Nonprofit arena usually scheduled with area colleges and universities. You can also post your resume with this site.
For Job seekers both in and outside the Washington/Baltimore area that are looking for listings outside the mid-Atlantic area, check the listed career fair providers for the listings of their scheduled career fairs across the US.
Websites of Career Fair Providers for individuals holding US Security Clearances:
ClearanceJobs.com www.ClearanceJobs.com is a Dice Holdings Company web site for individuals
holding active clearances with DoD, DoE, NRC and NSA. Individuals can post their resume as well as
look at posted positions calling for cleared personnel. The search for positions can be by state if
desired. DICE is the one niche site that is still having great success is connecting IT job seekers with
employers.
ClearedJobs.net www.clearedjobs.net offers the cleared professional opportunities to meet those
employers with cleared positions across the nation and overseas. Offers Job and resume postings,
advance notice of career fairs and topic appropriate free seminars at each career fair. Like the other top
career fair providers perspective attendees are encouraged to pre-register.

Job Search, with critical links to the rest of the military community’s efforts in Job Search. Free

Fairs offer the balance between the DoD contractors that require security clearances and employers
who do not require clearances. Always check their web site or the newspaper ads ahead of the
scheduled event for specific free seminars that are always on target.
Civilianjobs.com www.civilianjobs.com. Web site for transitioning military and spouses offers
free online recruiting. Caution here, there are portions of this web site that are not free.
DefenseCareers.com www.defensecareers.com. Producer of Job Fairs for individuals with Security
Clearances and those with unique skills where because of skill sets possessed the company will
sponsor the individual while obtaining clearance for individual.
IntelligenceCareers.com. www.IntelligenceCareers.com and its partner sites offer resources and programs
for those with clearances and who are interested in either connecting with the federal sector or with a
contractor to the federal sector. This group periodically offers a one-day seminar on securing
opportunities with DoD contractors and other organizations holding security clearance required
positions. It also provides a guide to the value of the resume (of individuals holding a clearance) in the
Intelligence Community upon request. The requestor must hold a currently valid clearance, Secret or
higher to ask for this free service. (See IntelligenceCareers above for more detail.)
Military Stars www.MilitaryStars.com. A relatively newcomer focused to the military. Offers
career fairs periodically plus other services for separating military personnel.
TransitionCareers.com www.transitionscareers.com. Relative new URL focusing on the military,
usually offering the career fairs on military installations but not always. Web site offers job board and
other useful resources for those in the search mode. Career Fairs are restricted to separating military
and others with Security Clearance. When on military installations required appropriate ID for non
active duty military.
Web Sites Supporting the Military in Transition:
Cinchouse.com www.cinchouse.com. The new web portal for military wives, claims to be the
largest Military Spouse Job Network offering information on Health, Fitness, Finances, Base
Communities and selection of branch of service for more focus. Not much on Job Search, the tools,
techniques or resources. Quality of information less than expected. May develop more via the Chat
Room.
Lucas Group Hiring Conferences www.bradley-morris.com This is an organization that charges both
the job seeker and the client for services. This is not a provider of career fairs but rather a two-day
program for separating military and employers seeking to hire military.
MilitaryCandidates.com www.militarycandidates.com. Web site for military personnel seeking
opportunities outside the military and for employers seeking military experience.

opportunities for separating military. Posting via jobsearch@ffscnorva.navy.mil. Web site:
www.ffscnorva.navy.mil.
Troops to Teachers www.proudtoserveagain.com the web site for transitioning military interested in
pursuing teaching positions within the fifty states. Each state has its own representative who explains
the requirements including certifications required and timing requirements.
VetJobs.com www.vetjobs.com, is the largest military related job board on the Internet.
VetJobs is ranked as one of the very top job boards while at the same time being a niche job board. It
is supported by and partially owned by the VFW, and endorsed by VVA, Naval Reserve Association,
Veterans of Modern Warfare, and others. Workforce Magazine ranks it among its leading job boards,
as does AIRS. Over 3,000 employers use VetJobs, and candidates do not have to register to view jobs
or apply, they can apply directly. Lists of upcoming Job/Career Fairs are found in VetJobs monthly
newsletter. This site is free to veterans, transitioning military and their family members. With its
latest version of its web site in August it now has 200,000+ visitors each month. This is a strong
positiv for military and former military as the market tightens considerably and the media is beginning
to give greater recognition of the values to employers in hiring former military.

CorporateGray.com www.corporate-gray.com Listings of Military Career Fairs plus Resume hosting
